Cricket's three formats and major tournaments

Cricket in Bangladesh is more than a sport — it is passion. Across the country, people hold their breath together during every Bangladesh Tigers match. When betting at king taka, you need to understand that cricket's three main formats affect the markets differently.

T20: The fastest format — each team gets only 20 overs. BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup are all played in this format. Results come quickly, so betting markets also change fast.

ODI: In a one-day match, each team plays 50 overs. The ICC World Cup and bilateral series are played in ODI format. In this format, the total runs and partnership markets are quite popular.

Test: In five-day Test cricket, patience and strategy matter most. A draw is a valid result, so you can bet on three outcomes — team A wins, team B wins, or a draw. This variety is what sets Test betting apart.

Football and other sports betting

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at king taka. Betting markets are available for European leagues, the FIFA World Cup and the Asian Championship. However, there are a few key differences between cricket and football betting.

In T20 cricket there is no draw — one team must win. So the market is split directly between the two teams. But in football a draw is a common result, meaning the match winner market has three options — team A wins, team B wins, or a draw. This extra option arranges the odds differently.

Betting options may also be available for badminton, tennis and kabaddi. However, cricket and football are the most familiar to sports fans in Bangladesh, so the depth of betting markets is greater for these two sports.

Popular betting markets — how to bet on each

Several markets are available for cricket betting at king taka. The most common markets are explained below so that new bettors can understand them easily.

Match Winner

The simplest market — pick which team will win. Example: team A vs team B — you think team B will win, so you bet on team B.

Simplest

Toss Winner

You can bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The result is entirely random, so the odds are generally close to equal between the two teams.

Quick result

Top Batsman

Bet on which batter will score the most runs in an innings or the whole match. You need to choose one batter from a specific team's batters.

Skill-based

Total Runs Over/Under

A specific number is set — for example 160 runs. You choose whether the team will score more (over) or less (under) than that. This market is quite popular in T20.

Statistics-based

Multi Bet

Combine multiple selections into one bet. If all selections are correct, the odds multiply and you get a larger return. But if even one is wrong, you lose the entire bet.

High return

Man of the Match

Bet on who will be the best performer in the whole match. You need to pick one player from several options in this market, so the odds tend to be comparatively higher.

How to read and understand odds

In betting, odds are a measure of potential return. king taka generally displays decimal odds, but it is good to know fractional and American formats too.

Format Team A win price Team B win price
Decimal 3.00 1.50
Fractional 2/1 1/2
American +200 -200

Example 1 — ৳500 bet on team A: Decimal 3.00 means three taka back for every taka staked. If you win a ৳500 bet, you get back ৳1,500 (৳1,000 profit plus ৳500 original stake). If you lose, your ৳500 is gone.

Example 2 — team B the favourite: Decimal 1.50 means team B is the more likely winner. If you bet ৳500 and win, you get back ৳750 (৳250 profit). In American format, minus (-200) means you need to stake ৳200 to make ৳100 profit.

Remember — lower odds mean that outcome is more likely (the favourite), and higher odds mean more risk but also a higher return.

Multi bet example

If the decimal odds on three selections are 1.40, 1.60 and 1.70, the combined odds will be
1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = 3.81
A ৳100 bet returns ৳381 — but only if all three selections win. If even one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.

Live betting — odds shift the moment a wicket falls

In-play or live betting is the ability to bet while a match is in progress. It is completely different from regular betting — because the situation changes after every ball and the odds update instantly along with it.

LIVE

Say in a T20 match team A has scored 120 runs in 15 overs and lost 3 wickets. If two wickets then fall in quick succession, team A's chances of winning drop, so their odds rise. At that moment, the odds on team B shorten. In live betting, these changes happen in real time.

The run rate at the end of an over, a bowling change in the death overs, or the required run rate for a team in the last 5 overs — all of these change the live market odds moment by moment. So to bet live, you need a good understanding of how the match is moving.

To bet live from your mobile, you can access it easily on the king taka App.

A few things to keep in mind before betting

Cricket betting is a form of entertainment — treating it as a source of income is a mistake. Keeping the following points in mind will make the betting experience better.

  • Set a budget: Decide in advance how much you will stake for each match. Do not go beyond that limit.
  • Focus on one market: The match winner market is the simplest for beginners. It is better not to start with complex multi bets.
  • Understand the format: Betting strategy is different for T20 and Test. The same team can perform completely differently across the two formats.
  • Pitch and weather: The pitch type and weather play a big role in how a match develops, especially in Test and ODI.
  • Do not bet more after a loss: The tendency to place bigger bets to recover losses is harmful. Read the responsible gaming guidelines.
  • No rushing in live betting: You have to make quick decisions in in-play markets — but do not place large bets driven by emotion.
Betting is only for members aged 21+. Betting is a form of entertainment — never an alternative to income. Play within your limits.

Cricket betting FAQs

In T20, a match ends in just 20 overs, so odds change quickly and live betting is more effective. In ODI, there are 50 overs, so the situation stabilises in the middle overs and betting on the total runs market is more popular. T20 has no draw, but a draw is possible in Test — this difference has the biggest impact on how markets are structured.

Odds change the fastest when a wicket falls. When two wickets fall in quick succession, the batting team's chances of winning drop, so their odds rise immediately. Odds also shift quickly at the end of the powerplay, the start of the death overs, and when the required run rate in the final overs becomes very high.

Generally, multiple matches or different markets from the same match can be added to a multi bet. However, each selection must be independent. Keep in mind — the more selections you add, the higher the combined odds, but the lower the chance of winning all of them. If even one loses, the entire multi bet fails.

Both are T20 format leagues, so the types of betting markets are the same. However, since IPL is a larger competition globally, more markets and options are available for it. Since BPL is Bangladesh's own league, there is more opportunity to bet based on direct knowledge of Bangladeshi players. The same betting principles apply to either league.

Decimal odds of 3.00 means ৳3 is returned for every ৳1 staked — that is, ৳2 profit on top of the original stake. If you bet ৳500 and win, you get back ৳1,500 in total (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake). In fractional format this is 2/1 and in American format it is +200. If you lose, your ৳500 is gone.
